Morning Reading Period

Introduction and Content

 

Objectives:

  • Cultivate students' lifelong learning habit of reading;
  • Broaden students' range of knowledge and enrich students' personal thinking scope;
  • Improve students' language skills in English and Chinese and promote learning through reading.

 

Lesson Requirements:

  • Students need to prepare reading materials for lesson. Those who fail to bring reading materials will be registered by the “Morning Reading Ambassador”. The record will be handed over to the teacher responsible for the Morning Reading Period and will be considered missing homework. 
  • Comics, pornography or books with violent contents are not allowed in the Morning Reading Period.
  • "My Reading Log" of the Morning Reading Period will be kept by the teacher and distributed during the the Morning Reading Period. Students have to write down the date and make short notes for each lesson
  • Students are required to follow the instructions and dates listed on the back cover of "My Reading Log" and complete the requirements on time. 

 

Assessment:

  • Teachers will observe the students' reading performance in every session of the Morning Reading Period. Before the end of the school year, teachers in each class will select outstanding students based on students' class performance and the content of "My Reading Log".
  • Students' outstanding works in "My Reading Log" will be posted on poster boards outside the library for display and sharing. 
  • All the outstanding students will be commended.
